I wondered if I could define the volumes in different perspectives without using a reference. Also, if possible, try a different shading technique.
I wanted to see how much I had learned since I started and my understanding of forms, light, and shadows
First, I used basic shapes like squares and triangles to define the body's direction.
Then I started cleaning up the sketch and doing the line art, and I began painting it.
After that, I added a layer in Multiply mode and painted the entire drawing with blue, then started erasing the raised areas (like the cheeks).
Then I created an Overlay layer and began adding highlights with the lasso tool.
I repeated the process, but now with darker highlights, until I achieved the desired result.
After trying my idea, it gave me the confidence that I'm on the right track, although I still have a lot to learn. These practices help me try new things and not stay in my comfort zone.
I personally learned more about shading and lighting in a way that I like and have been learning recently.I feel you can learn how I think shadows work on fantasy creatures.
I would like to improve the backgrounds; they feel very basic, and the grayscale values and silhouettes could be better.
For the design of the creatures I based them on the Wing of Fire book series
(is a original characters from the book series)
