Project Summary

In this project we worked with the problem of adverts posted on internet pages that can disrupt viewers of this sites. This project focused on solving this problem by using a program to erase this ads.

Why did you do this project?

We wanted to figure out how to take out this annoying ads from the screen. We investigated about the situation until we decided to use a program to solve it.

How did you make your project or solve this problem?

In few words, we installed an operative system, Pihole, into a Raspberry Pi, an advanced microcontroler. Then, we installed Tailscale, a program that allowed the connection between the Raspberry Pi and the computer even if the web is not the same between both of them. After that, we opened the terminal, and using the SSH protocole, introduced a series of commands, which prepared this Pihole for doing its task (blocking ads). Finally, we got into the Tailscale and Pihole web, turn on the system, and lastly, we saw how the Raspberry Pi erased ads on the screen.

What did you find out?

After testing our idea, we can say it was a complete success. Our solution is, very basically,   using an operative system that, after receiving the instructions in the terminal, can erase ads on the screen.

Why do your results matter?

This result does not show anything in particular, but we did learn several things from this project, like how using the terminal and the Raspberry Pi. We understood that, even though our world has many disrupting and annoying things, there is always a solution for most of them.

What could you do next?

We could improve this project by expanding the influence of this program. For example, we could try to develop a program that, besides only blocking the ads of the apps, blocks adverts from other places, like, for example, YouTube videos.
