This project is about Kawasaki Disease (KD). I was in the hospital for a week last year, and I learned it was because of KD. I wanted to know what KD is and what happened inside my body.
I wanted to find out what the symptoms of KD are and what can happen if it is not treated early. I learned that KD can affect the heart and blood vessels. So I also studied how the circulatory system and the heart work.
First, I drew the symptoms of KD. Next, we made a life-size map of the circulatory system. Finally, we built a model to show how blood moves through the body.
I learned that KD can make you very sick. You can have a high fever, red eyes, a rash, and swollen lymph nodes. It can also affect your heart, especially the blood vessels called coronary arteries. These blood vessels can get weak, so blood cannot flow smoothly, and that can be dangerous.
I learned that KD can be hard to recognize, and it may take time to diagnose. It also took time for me to find out what I had. If KD is not treated early, it can hurt the heart. I want more people to know the signs so children can get help quickly.
Next time, I want to use stronger paper for my life-size map. I also want to build two models to compare a healthy circulatory system and a sick one. But overall I am happy with my work.
